Born Fiona Mary Elspeth McIntyre in Nairobi 1963.
Fiona McIntyre was brought up in Dublin in the late 60's in a musical and artistic family. Her Great Grandfather was the Camden Town Group painter Malcolm Drummond and like him Fiona studied at Edinburgh College of Art. Later she moved to Sweden where she won a public competition to make public art, exhibited regularly and took part in a Dadaistic art performance at several Art Museums in Sweden as well as being recorded for Swedish National Radio. Fiona developed her painting and printmaking at studios in Malmo and Lund and went on to study under Surrealist Bertil Lundberg at his printworkshop Grafikskolan Forum. This proved to be a very productive period where Fiona developed an expressionistic and rather dark series of paintings and prints inspired by her Scandinavian environment and frequent visits to Iceland. Fiona went on to develop a more experimental style of printmaking during Post Grad studies at Winchester studios in Barcelona. This was a very inspiring time which enabled Fiona to improvise with new materials and develop a powerful and personal language around the human body as self expression. While living in Barcelona Fiona worked as assistant to printmaker Masafumi Yamamoto and was fascinated by his fusion of Catalan and Japanese printmaking techniques. In 1993 Fiona moved to London for several years where she taught and lectured at several schools including Central School of Speech & Drama where Fiona taught Post Graduate Painting. This was a frenetic period of juggling several jobs as well as developing her own art at Delfina Studios and The Block Printworkshop. Later after retraining Fiona spent several years in London, Exeter and Bath working in Graphic Design. While living in Bath Fiona continued to develop her painting at Widcombe Studios and prints at Spike Island. She eventually won prizes two years running and was invited to become a member of The Bath Society of Artists in 2002. Fiona is currently based in the Cotswolds where she is developing her painting in relationship to the Gloucestershire landscape. She is exploring agricultural and natural patterns and the vibrant red earth tones and tangled trees that make this region so visualy inspiring.
